Introducing our Brand Ambassador

Louise Newman

Christchurch - New Zealand

We’re excited to introduce Birds on Bikes first New Zealand Brand Ambassador - Louise Newman! Based in Christchurch.

Tell us a little bit about yourself…

I’m Louise and I live in Christchurch, New Zealand.

Being selected as an Ambassador for Birds on Bikes was a very exciting moment for me, as I never expected to be chosen because I have never really been a cyclist. In my early cycling days, I would occasionally go for a ride, but being unfit and “curvy” it didn’t really appeal. It wasn’t until my early 40s that I started to enter low-level duathlons and triathlons, not because I wanted to win but so I could say I had done it. I then discovered I actually really enjoyed them, and as I became fitter, I started to enjoy biking more. My newfound cycling enthusiasm quickly came to an end due to numerous injuries that meant I couldn’t compete, and from the lack of activity and age creeping up, I became “curvier’ and it was harder to motivate myself to get back out and do it again.

Earlier in 2021, my hubby, Tony, suggested that we buy a couple of e-bikes as we both needed to get out more. So, after a recommendation from friends and a lot of research, we ended up buying a couple of e-bikes. To say it has been the best thing we have done is an understatement, as during our ‘lockdown’ we explored our city and discovered it has a great range of cycle trails that can take you just about anywhere.

We have also ridden one of the trails that make up the ‘Alps to Ocean’ bike trail here in the South Island of New Zealand. It’s a beautiful ride that has encouraged us to start making plans to pack up the motorhome and throw the bikes on the back and get out and explore more of the cycle trails that New Zealand has to offer.

I am proud to be an ambassador for Birds on Bikes as when I went looking for some comfortable bike pants, I found it really hard to find something here in New Zealand that fitted, was comfortable and was in my price range, and then I came across Birds on Bikes. It was the best purchase ever! My wide behind gave a sigh of relief as it slipped into something so comfy. There are some new products in the pipeline that I cannot wait to slip into and tell you how they fit a curvier body.
