What It Means for Birds on Bikes—and for You
We’ve got exciting news to share with our wonderful community of cyclists and supporters. Birds on Bikes has reached a major milestone in our journey: we’ve formalised and strengthened our in-house standards for ethical, Australian Made production. This step recognises the work we’ve been doing for years—building a brand rooted in fairness, transparency, and quality craftsmanship—and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share what it means for our team and for you.
Why Ethical Manufacturing Matters
Ethical manufacturing isn’t a slogan; it’s a promise. For us, it means:
Fair wages and respect for skill: Everyone involved in making our garments is paid fairly for the expertise and care they bring to the job.
Safe, healthy workplaces: Our team works in clean, well-equipped spaces where safety and wellbeing come first.
No exploitation—full stop: From fabric cutting to final quality checks, our process is designed to protect people and uphold their rights.
Transparency you can trust: We’re open about how and where we make our gear, and we’re committed to continually improving our practices.
When you choose Birds on Bikes, you’re backing a way of making clothes that values people and the planet as much as performance.
The Benefits of Buying Local
Choosing Australian Made cycling apparel has real, everyday benefits:
Supporting local jobs: Every jersey, pair of bibs, and base layer sustains skilled roles in our Brisbane community and beyond.
Quality you can feel: Shorter supply chains mean closer oversight. From fabric selection to stitching, we hold each step to high standards.
Smaller footprint: Local production reduces transport emissions and allows us to produce in sensible quantities—no wasteful over-manufacturing.
Community impact: Your support helps us back local initiatives and keep investing in better gear for women riders, sizes 6–24.

Our Journey: From Home Studio to Ethical Edge Collective
Birds on Bikes started small—really small—in a home studio with a big vision: comfortable, confidence-building cycling apparel designed by women, for women. As demand grew, so did our responsibility. We moved to an in-house production facility in Brisbane under our manufacturing arm, Ethical Edge Collective. This move gives us complete control over patterns, cutting, sewing, quality checks, and final finishing.
Why does that matter? Because control equals consistency. It means we can:
Make in small batches to reduce waste and keep a sharp eye on quality.
Refine fit and performance with direct feedback from our community.
Trial better materials and trims without waiting on distant timelines.
Stand by every garment that leaves our workshop.

What This Means for Your Ride
Ethical production shows up in the details you feel on the bike:
Longer-lasting comfort: Fabrics with dependable recovery, moisture management that endures, and finishes that stay smooth.
Reliable construction: Reinforced stress points, neat seams, quality elastics, and hardware that refuses to quit mid-ride.
Consistent fit: Because we control our patterns and production, sizing remains true across seasons.
Smarter design: We build with real riders in mind—pockets where you need them, grippers that stay put, and silhouettes that move with you.
What’s Next at Birds on Bikes
Strengthening our internal standards is just the beginning. We’re working on:
