Why We Said No to Black Friday
Black Friday has transformed from a day of exciting deals into an overwhelming onslaught of sales emails, marketing messages, and frantic consumerism. For many brands, participating in Black Friday has become the norm, even if it doesn’t align with their values or customer needs. But does it really have to be this way?
Over the years, Black Friday has moved far beyond its original intention. Instead of being a day to grab a few bargains, it now often promotes impulsive purchasing and a race to the bottom in pricing. As consumers, our inboxes are flooded, our social media feeds are saturated, and we’re left questioning whether these deals are truly worth the hype.
As a brand, Birds on Bikes has always focused on delivering quality products, sustainable practices, and fostering a strong community. This year, we decided to step back from the frenzy of Black Friday. We believe that our customers deserve thoughtful, intentional shopping experiences rather than being pressured by flash discounts.
For us, this choice was about staying true to our values:
- Sustainability over urgency: Encouraging purchases that align with genuine needs.
- Respect for quality: Avoiding the perception that quality can be slashed to fit a single day’s sale.
- Protecting our team and community: Supporting our ethical practices without compromise.
We understand that Black Friday works for some businesses and shoppers. But we hope this year sparks a conversation about whether we truly need this level of consumption, especially when it doesn’t align with our values. We invite you to shop intentionally, thoughtfully, and with purpose. And if you're looking for something meaningful this holiday season, our collection is always here to support you—every day of the year.
