Shop NowWaistband or Bibs?
Both styles provide padded cycling comfort. The best choice comes down to how you like your clothing to feel around your middle.
Padded bike pants with a waistband
Choose a waistband style if you prefer familiar, easy-to-wear cycling pants.
Our high-rise designs are made to sit securely without constant adjusting, while the wide waistband helps create a comfortable, supportive fit.
Pocket bibs
Choose a bib if you dislike pressure or tightness around your waist.
The shoulder straps help hold the pants comfortably in place, and our pocket bibs still give you practical storage for your phone and essentials.
Whichever style you choose, you'll enjoy the same premium Birds on Bikes comfort.

Looking for lighter padding?
Urban Unders are padded cycling underwear designed to be worn beneath your own shorts, pants or skirts.
They are a good option for shorter rides, commuting, casual outings and women who do not want to wear traditional cycling knicks.

How should cycling pants fit?
Padded cycling pants should feel close and supportive without cutting in, slipping down or restricting your movement.
The padding should sit firmly against your body, and the fabric should feel smooth through the hips and thighs without loose folds.
Our cycling bottoms have a compressive fit. When you are between sizes, we often recommend choosing the smaller size, but your preferred level of compression matters too.
FAQs
Padded bike pants should feel close and supportive, with the chamois sitting firmly against your body. They should not sag, bunch or move around while you ride.
A snug fit helps keep the padding in the correct position and reduces friction. They should still feel comfortable enough to move freely without digging in.
Our padded cycling pants are designed to have a close, compressive fit.
When you are between sizes, we generally recommend choosing the smaller size, especially if you prefer a firm, supportive fit. Choose the larger size if you prefer less compression or are particularly sensitive around the waist.

Padded bike pants have a traditional waistband and are easy to pull on and off.
Bibs use shoulder straps instead of a waistband, which can reduce pressure around your middle and help keep the chamois securely in place. Many women prefer bibs for longer rides or when they find waistbands uncomfortable.
The best leg length depends on the weather, the type of riding you do and how much coverage you prefer.
Shorts are ideal for warm weather.
¾-length pants provide coverage below the knee.
7/8 capris offer extra lower-leg coverage without reaching the ankle.
Full-length tights are suited to cooler conditions and winter riding.
There is no right or wrong choice. It comes down to what makes you feel most comfortable.
Most of our main padded bike pants and bibs include practical side pockets for a phone and small essentials.
Check the individual product description before purchasing, as pocket placement and features can vary between styles.
Removing the inside-leg seam helps reduce rubbing and irritation in an area where cyclists commonly experience discomfort.
This is especially valuable on longer rides, when repeated movement can make traditional seams uncomfortable.
Padded cycling pants are designed to be worn without underwear.
The chamois is intended to sit directly against the skin so it can manage moisture, reduce friction and stay in the correct position.
Underwear can introduce extra seams and fabric, which may cause rubbing or bunching.
No. The best chamois is not necessarily the thickest one.
A good chamois should provide support in the areas that make contact with the saddle while remaining flexible and comfortable. Very thick padding can sometimes feel bulky or move around more.
Your riding position, saddle and ride length can all affect which padding feels best.
Urban Unders are padded cycling underwear that can be worn beneath your own shorts, trousers or skirts.
They have lighter padding than traditional cycling knicks and are suited to shorter rides, commuting and casual cycling.
